Confession...

...I have a striped obsession.

Remember, during my Ditch the wardrobe project I threw out all my garments, except ten pieces. Well, naturally 4 of these are striped, including my PJs.

and it is true
as I predicted
which was obviously foreseeable
having nearly nothing to wear
is in fact fantastically motivating.

Behold, the first stitches of a crocheted pullover.

I find it extremely meditative...

How do you start off your morning?

I always say a good habit compensates a not so positive one...
Here is what I like to do while drinking my morning cup of fresh brewed, energizing coffee (which according to my doctor is partly faulty for my body's ever so low levels of iron).

Have a happy day!
And remember, the joy that shines through your day has its origins in you. As simple as that!

E.

Ditch the Wardrobe: Item -1-

First of all I'd like to make a specification about this project. I received A LOT of feedback backing me up in it, telling me, how it is great to donate clothes and to clean out my wardrobe of clothes I haven't been using in a long time. Well, while you are absolutely right, my projects is NOT about this. Yes I have given away the clothes to people who most likely need them more than I do. Yet, I am not here to brag about the deeds that fondle my conscience. I decided to do this projects because I no longer wish to be a part of those that buy buy and yet again buy, because they have the feeling they would die if they wouldn't have this or that. Or to buy expensive things just because they have a label, or to buy expensive clothes that bring profit to a few, while those who really put an effort into making them are starving.

So, to set the record straight, I cleared out my wardrobe. I still have my shoes left, and working clothes to wear at the workshop. Plus two outfits to wear. This has to be drastic, if you start by throwing out one or two things, or an old pile of clothes that you haven't been wearing anyway, then you will not feel pressured to create, because you'll mark everything else more important on your priority list.

So this is what I did. I gave it all away, and I am determined to recreate my wardrobe by handcrafting everything. And because I like to start off small and then work my way up, here is a crochet cowl I made the other week. < And today I started one for Gaspar as well :)) >

Well, I hope I have now made myself more clear about this project! And I hope, maybe, in some way you will be inspired to follow...

E.

Ditch the Wardrobe

My dears,
I promised you (and to myself) lots of new projects this year, didn't I? Well here's one that would be a serious challenge to any lady madly obsessed about her ever enlarging wardrobe... Ditch it!
And what I really mean by this is: get rid of it! All of it. Who you give it to is entirely up to you, but I dare you! Would any of you be up for it?

You know, so many times I've thought about this insane obsession about buying more and more clothes, and never have anything to wear. Are you familiar with that? You have an entire room full of clothes and shoes hidden in wardrobes, drawers, shelves and when you stand in front of the open doors staring at the clothes you feel puzzled and growling you raise the eternal question "I don't know what to wear? What should I wear?"

And we keep buying... buying things that might even have a fake name (to an original) sewn to the side, but have no soul, no story, no value...

So the verdict has been said. And I have to tell you it gave me a couple of hours of insomnia a few nights in a row, whether I was seriously up for it or not. The other day I pulled out everything from my closet. Carefully selected the things that can be altered, made into something else and have put the rest into sacks for goodwill. There you have it.

So let me ask you this, girls. If you had to keep 10 items (only!), what would they be? (underwear doesn't count) Then of course you don't have to stay with solely those; the goal after all is to create what you wear. And buy only things with a soul or a story, which -decoded- means handcrafted or vintage. These are the rules. Nothing more, nothing less.

Are you ready to make a difference? So many people talk. I'd like to be part of the small group that does!

Never doubt to contact me, through the comment form bellow, or by email. And if you decide to take my challenge I'd be more than happy to know about it!

Looking forward for the evolution of this project! Stay tuned for more...
Love,
E.

Origami gift box tutorial

I have been packing the online orders and market purchases into tiny little origami boxes throughout last month, that were made by Gaspar. He was really nice helping me out with packing ans shipments, well basically all the administrative side related to my work. So I thought why won't we share with you how to make these sweet origami boxes. So easy and can be decorated in a thousand ways!

All you need is:
- 2x perfectly square sheets of paper (one should be 4 mm wider than the other- for the top of the box)

So here you can find the step by step picture tutorial:

It might seem a little confusing, but just try. Once you get the hang of it, it will be really easy!

And as I said, there are tons of ways to decorate them. You can just keep it simple and tie a bow on top of it, or you can be a bit more creative and find what works for you! I also tried gluing lace on top and then putting a contrasting ribbon...They can be really pretty, I'm telling you!

A great thank you goes out to Gaspi, not only for sharing this tutorial, but also for all the help and support he has shown and given during my busiest month work-wise...

I am truly grateful! And also, hope you enjoyed!
Love,
E.

2012

source: pinterest

I started the year with a big mug of fresh coffee...

And had it alone, because I was the only one able to wake up as early as 9:15 a.m. But I am really grateful for these little times of solitude; they help me reflect and all great thoughts come in these moments...

I am not writing to tell about my night, I'm not a great fan of this whole New Year's hoopla, I just thought I'd greet everyone on this magical day. Anyone who spent the day in Cluj, outdoors, can really feel bewitched right now by the generous sunshine that kept us company throughout the entire day.

I am not a "resolution-making" person, but I will tell you this: I feel something strange, in a good way. Like this will be an exceptionally great year. Not an easy one. But one filled with lots of love and this will get us through it all...

Have a joyful start to the year!
I hope you'll stay around and if you decide to do so, prepare yourself for lots of new collections, projects, tutorials, challenges, giveaways, sales and loads of fun alongside Jasmin Blanc Boutique...and naturally: me!

Love,
E.
