the great outdoors

Warm sunshine and mild spring wind, the perfect time for an outdoor studio, which requires nothing more than some sort of stand, a tabletop and a chair. You put them all together, you add some ceramic pieces and you place me on that chair and that is all it takes to make me happy ;) So that is how it went...

Oh how I long for these days in those cold winter days.

Please notice my helping elves. Life is hard, I know. So sometimes all we really need is a long cozy nap. These guys here really know somethin' about life's mysteries, we have to give them that!

By the way they are still up for adoption, and despite the fact that it breaks my heart to not have them around forever, all I really want is for them to end up with loving and caring families. So if you would like to adopt any of them, or know someone who does, please let me know.

How did the last day of March treat you?

Jewelry packaging

I always experiment with packaging, and as I like to keep things fresh and always new, this is not such a bad thing. Most of my international orders need extra special care due to the large travel distances, so the jewelry boxes for these orders are custom made in my studio by my wonderful "helping elf", but for all the other domestic orders I was aiming at finding the perfect gift box, which is simple and can be customized as I please. I loved the little kraft boxes I saw around the web, but they would have had to be imported from far away and shipping would have cost me a fortune. I was so bummed.

But finally I found a local maker a small family run business, who was kind enough to consider making these boxes for me, according to my measurement requirements (they are present on Etsy too, under funkyboxstudio). And this is what came out of this collaboration. I am so excited. I have not yet figured out the "general branding look", but it will surely involve a ceramic logo. That much I'm sure of! Stay posted for the final packaging. I will feature it shortly.

I prefer a simple, yet thoughtful packaging that supports and doesn't steal the sparkle of the product itself. How about you?

Custom cat pendant - Etsy newsletter FEATURE

How's that for an awesome week. My custom cat necklace has been featured twice in two separate newsletters from Etsy. I am thrilled, the sun is shining, M is sleeping and I am about to head to a spring garden-party with great friends. Spring is so good to me!

Also, let me just say a huge THANK YOU to Vixy and Tuxie for the perfect listing photo, and to Etsy for selecting my work into their newsletter. I am ever so grateful!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Love,
E.

Puppy love

These cuties made my day. How could anyone get any work done with so much fluffiness around? I bet you know what I did in between each set of slip casting :)

Featured in Psychologies magazine

I am so very happy to say that one of my jewelry boxes was featured in Psychologies magazine. Thank you Breslo, for making this possible! In a magazine on the cover of which Nicole Kidman is presented, my oh my, this was just simply meant to be :) It is the very first time my work got featured in an actual magazine, printed on paper is just the way I like it... Online is amazing too, but holding it in my hands is priceless!

Here's to many more!

Cat painting marathon

After finally returning to the studio (and home) I had to dive right in to the pile of orders I had to paint my way through. The few days visit to Gaspi has turned into a more-than-a-week long puppy-care leave, and since I could not prepare my shops for my absence beforehand, things really got out of hand. But in a couple of days all the orders will be painted, assembled, packed and shipped. And so I will be able to get back on track and lower my caffeine intake. (*wink*)

To all who are waiting for your orders: thank you for understanding this situation. As I said before, I never put anything before work, but this time it was the right thing to do. I really appreciate your patience!
Love,
Erika

Can you guess what's on my mind?

I bought a bunch of seeds, what will become of this seed extravaganza, I cannot tell. But I need to make more plant markers, that's for sure! I bought the soil today and I am eager to start digging my hands into it to plant some kitchen herbs. I'm so excited!

Do you have your very own herb garden? Is it indoors or do you plant them out in your garden? Would love to hear your about your gardening experience, any suggestions and tips are most welcome!
Love,
E.

Saving a life

I wrote the sorry bellow on my facebook page yesterday, posted photos about the puppy and made the results of her x-ray public:

"Last week, on his way to work my boyfriend, Gaspar, spotted a dog laying on the ground by the side of the road. That is not very surprising in Romania, as there are many stray dogs around, unfortunately, and there are very few shelters with poor conditions to take care of them. The next day the dog was in the very same place looking around, seated in the very same spot. Now that started to look suspicious so he stopped to see what the problem was. The dog must have been hit by a car, and left behind to starve and suffer to death. She could not move, as she drags her behind altogether. When I arrived to Gaspar's place and he took me to see the puppy just outside of town in the open field, we gave her something to eat, but I knew we could not abandon her, so we took her back home with us. On Tuesday we took her 60km from here to the nearest clinic for an x-ray (which is not cheap by the way) and the good news is, her spine is not affected. But her back legs are both broken (as you can see from the results of the x-ray) and she needs surgery in a maximum of 5 days time. The surgery costs about 450 lei, and then all the recovery treatments she needs afterwards with antibiotics are also very expensive. She endures all the pain she goes through bravely and relatively quietly, she is a fighter so I know she will make it if she receives help. PLEASE help me to give her life back, even the smallest amount of donation can add up to save her life! Let's brake ignorance together! Please!"

Last night the story received many shares, and then a couple of people wrote back expressing their willingness to make a donation. I also tried to motivate my shop's fans to buy cat products by offering the proceeds from these orders entirely to the recovery of this innocent and abandoned puppy.

But before even raising the entire sum for the surgery Gaspar and I, we decided to call and schedule the surgery to the soonest possible date as there is absolutely no time to waste and she goes through terrible pain, which has seemingly increased after the x-ray. So the puppy will undergo surgery tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 8:30 PM.

Surprisingly, very few of my 1228 "friends" on facebook did more than to press share, which saddened me a little, but what I find to be a modern day miracle is the response I got from absolute strangers who I'm very sure are not aware of their angelic qualities, but they are nothing less than true angels! I am humbled by the willingness of people I have never met to help me save this loving puppy's life! So, thank you! Thank you! Thank you a million times over. I am so very grateful for your kind help!

If you, who reads this post right now, think that you are able to help this puppy with even the smallest donation, please write to me at erika.iozsa @ gmail (dot) com

I am really nervous about tomorrow's surgery, but at the very same time I am hopeful and positive about it all. God has sent amazing help to us, without which I don't even want to imagine what could have been the outcome. I appreciate any kind of support, prayers, good words, positive thoughts sent our way or perhaps a donation. I am holding my breath until I will know more...

Thank you angels!
Love,
Erika

hand-crafted love

Whenever someone tells me that they can never seem to find the right product for them, that they feel like they have to make compromises whenever they want to buy sustainable products from local or non-local, but small businesses that handcraft all their inventory, it makes me wonder whether they live with an open eye and heart or what? Because I could just drive around my own country and point out several studios and workshops where one can find products which shine with uniqueness and style, pride themselves in their quality ingredients/raw materials and their skillful craftsmanship. But let's suppose that they were unable to find anything (which I honestly doubt) locally, well sweet lord, just search the web, you do not have to compromise any aspect of your demands whatsoever. You can go ahead and support a maker, a freelance designer or a craftsman aaaand have yourself a product that you will love... and oh wait for it: at an affordable price.
So open up your heart folks and don't fool yourself with silly excuses, this is the road we ought to walk down on for a thoughtful and sustainable economy. Allow your acts to reflect your beliefs and don't let yourself be discouraged  simply because it may appear to be a little more complicated to do!

colorful world

I have a magic map just above my message board. It used to be blank, plain white, with black boarder lines, but now it gets more and more coloring each week. Whenever I get an order from a person living in a still-white country I immediately grab a happy color-pencil and quickly jump to highlight that country. I hope to one day have a map proudly resting on my wall in all colors and shades of the rainbow...

Thank you for your support, you add color to my map and to my life! It means the world for me!
Love you
